Birth Place: Athens, Greece
Famous for: Model
Biography:
Georgia is a Greek-born Irish model who has promoted everything from fake tan to wrestling, mostly while wearing a bikini.
Born to a Greek father and Irish mother in Athens, Salpa moved to Ireland aged four and was raised in Killiney, near Dublin. Her mother paints. She is the eldest of four children, having two sisters and one brother. In secondary school she was, in her own words, "a bit of a nerd always very thin and had really curly afro hair and had to wear glasses and a patch over one eye". After school she backpacked the globe for two years, visiting more than 30 countries including India, Thailand, Costa Rica, Brazil, Australia and Hong Kong.
In Ireland, Salpa has undertaken modelling assignments for various publications. She has made TV appearances on such programmes as The Podge and Rodge Show, Republic of Telly, Celebrity Salon and Catwalk to Kilimanjaro.
She reached a new peak in the presence of public consciousness in August 2009 after posing in a bikini for a controversial photoshoot for Food & Wine magazine alongside chef Neven Maguire. The magazine apologised after those offended vented their fury on Liveline.
Salpa has featured in both the Norwegian and Polish versions of FHM.
Salpa then shocked her Sleeping Beauty colleagues, including Alan Hughes, in late 2011 when she quit the pantomime via a text message days before it began.
Career:
Salpa began modeling at 14 years old after being scouted in Ireland and has undertaken modelling assignments for various publications. She has made TV appearances on such programmes as The Podge and Rodge Show, Republic of Telly,Celebrity Salon and Catwalk to Kilimanjaro. She played a role as herself on Republic of Telly. In August 2009 after posing in a bikini for a controversial photoshoot for Food & Wine magazine alongside chef Neven Maguire, the magazine apologised after complaints on Liveline.
Salpa has since moved over to the UK,where she participated in the Channel 5 show Celebrity Big Brother where she was the third housemate evicted. While in the house she dismissed her relationship with Calum Best as "a simple fling".She was up for eviction on the first turn but defeated Andrew Stone to secure her stay in the house. She then faced eviction for a second time following the third round of nominations after fellow housemate Kirk Norcross nominated her for resisting his advances. She was evicted on that occasion.
In May 2012 Salpa finished 5th in FHM's 100 sexiest women poll.
How a shy Greek girl becames as an Irish phenomenon
Ironically, Georgia Salpa quit modelling at first because, as a 14-year-old, she didn't like
doing bikinis and underwear. When she returned as one of FHM's High Street Honeys at 17,
the girl next door with a body to die for still had grave misgivings about underwear work.
Nowadays, most of us wouldn't recognise her with her clothes on, but that's mainly because
the real Georgia is not what you'd expect. She couldn't speak a word of English when she
came to Ireland, and will probably soon give it all up to get married and have kids. Liadan
Hynes tells the extraordinary story of how a publicity-shy beauty became a national
phenomenon, as Ireland's sweetheart poses for what's surely her sexiest shoot ever.
